Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down

Proverbs 26:20–21

“Envision this: Imagine a roaring fire, its warmth and light flickering in the night. Now, picture that fire dwindling, its embers fading, until it’s nothing more than a cold, lifeless heap of ashes. In those moments, you grasp the essence of a profound wisdom shared by King Solomon, the most sagacious of all beings.

Solomon’s words echo through time, resonating with undeniable truth: ‘Without wood, a fire goes out; without a gossip, a quarrel dies down.’ At first glance, it may seem extreme to attribute all quarrels to the insidious act of gossip. But let’s delve deeper into this notion.

Recall the last quarrel that ignited within your world. Delve into its origin, peel back the layers of discontent, and you’ll uncover a thread of gossip, however subtle or overt. It may not have been your lips that whispered the tale, but the odds are high that it was someone else’s.

Consider this as a rule of thumb: Where there are frequent quarrels, there’s often an undercurrent of gossip, festering like an unseen poison. Conflict emerges seemingly out of nowhere, leaving confusion and bitterness in its wake.

So, here’s the thought to ponder: Do you yearn for a life free from the tumultuous storms of quarrels? If so, then take heed. Shield yourself from the lure of gossip, for it is the catalyst that fuels these tempestuous disputes. By doing so, you safeguard your peace and build bridges instead of walls.”

A prayer to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Many people who gossip are usually just ashamed of their own past and try to bring shame to other people’s lives as well. Jesus died for our past, present, and future sins, and if we accept Him as Lord and Savior, all our past sins are forgiven and we are given a clean slate. All our shame is taken away and it’s replaced with glory.

If you’d like to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior please say this prayer with a sincere heart:

Lord Jesus, come into my life. Today I receive you as my Lord and Savior. Take my life and do something significant with it.

If you said that prayer, the Bible says you’re born again. Join a good-based church, and watch God turn your life around.
